David Studer’s career in television journalism spans 35 years at Global, CTV, and CBC. As a reporter, he specialized in politics, with postings to Ottawa and Toronto city halls, Queen’s Park and Parliament Hill. Later, as a producer, his work took him across Canada and the U.S., throughout Europe and to assignments in Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, Poland, Northern Ireland, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

As a manager, he oversaw more than 1500 productions in CBC’s The Journal documentary unit, served as Senior Producer of The Journal and the fifth estate, and has been Executive Producer of the fifth estate since 1994. During that time the CBC’s flagship investigative program has won dozens of prizes, including The Michener Award, five Gemini Awards for Best Information Series, numerous Canadian Association of Journalists awards for investigative work, and-for a collaboration with The New York Times and PBS Frontline – a share of the Pulitzer and Peabody awards. In 1999, David Studer was awarded the Gordon Sinclair Gemini for Best Broadcast Journalist.
