
Since joining the then Canada Cement Company as a technical sales engineer in 1958, John Redfern has held positions of increasing responsibility and played a key role in making Lafarge the largest diversified construction materials company in North America. He is chairman of Lafarge Canada Inc. and director of Lafarge North America Inc.
He has served on many corporate, government and non-profit boards. His volunteer work for Carleton University has included membership on the Board of Governors (1983-1991), chairing the Challenge Fund Campaign, and sitting on the President’s Advisory Council.
In 2006, Redfern was made a member of the Order of Canada. He was given the Alumni of the Year Award in 2000 in recognition of his contribution to alumni affairs and activities, and he received an honorary doctorate from Carleton in 1992.
