While Ryan North was studying computer science at Carleton, he started the Dinosaur Comics and web site as a result of taking Bruce Firestone’s Entrepreneurialist Culture class. Now, the project has expanded to include North’s first book, Dinosaur Comics: Your Whole Family Is Made out of Meat, which was published in 2006 by Quack Media. The comics, available online, are popular enough that North has been able to quit his “day job” and work on them full-time.
“My story is a good example of the multi-disciplinary approach to education that Carleton has taken,” says North. “One of the reasons I chose Carleton for my undergrad degree was that it was structured such that I could also do a minor in film studies at the same time.”
After graduating from Carleton, North completed a master’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Toronto.
