Alan Neal’s career at the CBC has spanned a decade and encompassed positions as casual associate producer, syndicated columnist, host of radio shows The Roundup, Ottawa Morning andAll in Day, and a quirky summer show, The Other Story, looking at the daily lives of Canadians from every angle. He can now be heard on Canada Live and Bandwidth presenting an insider’s view of the business of making music in Ontario.

An accomplished playwright who started writing and producing plays at a young age, Neal once starred as Chachi in his elementary school adaptation of the TV show Happy Days. At 17, Neal formed his own theatre production company, The Second Class Theatre Company. His plays include Artemis O’Hara, which was read at the National Arts Centre, and Angel Vicarious, which played at Ottawa’s Great Canadian Theatre Company and was inspired by a health law class Neal took at Carleton.

“Angel Vicarious is about a man who is dying who hires a Montreal photographer to stage all of the things he will not get to do . . . like his wedding. It examines how much we live vicariously through others and what experiences are real and how we accept things that we see as being true,” says Neal.
