Donald McEown ,

Donald McEown dedicated most of his career to Carleton University. He came to the university in 1963 to work as administrative assistant to the Bursar. Since that time, he’s worked for six presidents, served 15 chairs of the Board and has held numerous positions, including executive assistant to the president and secretary of the Board of Governors. Upon his retirement in 1998, he was named secretary emeritus to Carleton’s Board of Governors.

McEown also served in the Royal Canadian Artillery (M) achieving the rank of Major. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration in 1976 and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal.

McEown co-authored a book (with Professor Blair Neatby) entitled Creating Carleton: The Shaping of a University. He was presented with the Founders Award in 2004 for his contribution to the advancement of the university.
