Robert MacNeil’s legendary journalism career stretched over 40 years, beginning at Reuters News Agency in London in 1955 and ending in 1995 when he retired from the long-running MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, the first hour-long evening news broadcast in U.S. history.

His efforts as a journalist, an anchor, an author, and a playwright have earned him several Emmy awards, Peabody awards, an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award and a Television Critics Circle Award. He has written several impressive works, including Burden of Desire, The People Machine, and The Way We Were: 1963, The Year Kennedy was Shot.
