Joy Maclaren ,

A passionate supporter and advocate of higher education and minority rights, Joy Maclaren has tirelessly played an integral component in propelling Carleton University into the forefront among universities in Canada.

As a member of Carleton University’s Board of Governors from 1985 to 1993, she served on the numerous committees, which culminated in the creation of Alumni Park, where spring convocation is now held. Furthermore, Maclaren has displayed an exemplary record of benevolence, having given generously to Carleton towards the creation of numerous awards for financially disadvantaged students.

Maclaren has long been a strong supporter of the traditions and plight of Canadian Aboriginal People. In 1993 Aboriginal elders gathered at a special ceremony in Alumni Park to honour her with the name New Sun, recognizing Maclaren’s leadership in advancing the goals of Aboriginal People across the country.

In 2005, Carleton University presented Maclaren with the 2005 Founders Award for her unrelenting commitment to the University.
