Lawrence M. Krauss , BSc / 77

After receiving his undergraduate degrees in mathematics and physics from Carleton, Dr. Krauss went on to earn a Ph.D. in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining the Harvard Society of Fellows. He has been a faculty member at Yale, and currently holds the position of Ambrose Swasey Professor of Physics, Professor of Astronomy, and Chair of the Physics Department at Case Western Reserve University. In the fall of 2008, Krauss will join Arizona State University’s faculty as professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. There he will assume a leadership role in an emerging research and educational initiative on “origins.”

He has won countless awards for his publications and presentations on a wide range of topics, including the interface between elementary particle physics and cosmology, where his studies include the early universe, the nature of dark matter, general relativity and neutrino astrophysics. He is also the author of several popular science books including The Physics of Star Trek, which was an international bestseller.
