When Ip speaks, the financial world listens. For more than a decade Ip covered financial markets for the Wall Street Journal, becoming the chief economics correspondent in Washington, D.C. before joining the The Economist in 2008 where he is responsible for writing and reporting on the U.S. economy and economic policy, including the federal reserve.

After studying economics and journalism and Carleton, Ip worked at the Vancouver Sun, Financial Post and Globe and Mail before joining the Wall Street Journal in 1996. In 2005, he won a Business Journalist of the Year award from the World Leadership Forum. In 2002 he shared a Pulitzer Prize in the breaking news reporting category with the staff of the Wall Street Journal for a co-authored article “Attacks Raise Fears of a Recession”; in 1998, he was part of the team that received the Overseas Press Club’s Malcolm Forbes Award for business reporting and the Society of American Business Editors and Writers Best in Business Award.
