Edward Greenspon , BJ / 79

Edward Greenspon served as editor-in-chief of The Globe and Mail from 2002 to May 2009. Before assuming this position, Greenspon was political editor of The Globe and Mail, writing a column from Ottawa and co-hosting CTV’s weekly current affairs program Question Period.

Greenspon began his journalism career at the Lloydminster Times and also worked for the Regina Leader-Post and Financial Post before joining The Globe in 1986 as a business reporter specializing in media industries. He later served as the paper’s first European business correspondent, based in London, in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He is also co-author of Double Vision, The Inside Story of the Liberals in Power, for which he shared the 1996 Douglas Purvis Award for the best public policy book, and Searching for Certainty: Inside the New Canadian Mindset. He has won the Hyman Solomon Award for Excellence in Public Policy Journalism and the Michener Award for journalism.

Greenspon has an honours degree in journalism and political science from Carleton University in Ottawa. He was a Commonwealth Scholar at the London School of Economics, where he earned a master’s degree in politics and government.
