Christina Gold , BA / 69 , LL.D. / 2009

Formerly chairman, president and chief executive officer of Excel Communications in Dallas, Christina Gold joined Western Union Financial Services in 2002. Gold brings strong consumer marketing expertise to the company, having led a significant turnaround at Avon North America, which she joined in 1969, where she served as president and CEO of Avon Canada, president of Avon North America, and executive vice president of global development. Gold also serves on the boards of directors for ITT Industries, New York Life and Torstar Corp.

Gold has used her extensive corporate connections to benefit Carleton students. A gift from Gold and husband Peter, BA/66, was matched by three companies with which Gold had connections as a board member. The resulting Engelsman-Gold Family Scholarship supports students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Carleton University awarded Gold with the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, June 2009.
