Rosaleen Dickson , MJ / 03

When Rosaleen Dickson graduated with a master’s degree from Carleton’s School of Journalism at the age of 81, she had already worked for more than 30 years as the publisher and editor of The Equity, a weekly, family-run newspaper. An active member of the Editor’s Association of Canada, Dickson also wrote regular columns and was a feature writer and books editor for The Hill Times. Her thesis on the evolution of the web followed two books HTML: Hyper Text Markup Language – the Basic Book for People Who Would Rather Do It Than Read About It (with Rony Aoun) and Freenet for the Fun of It (with Pierre Bourque).

Dickson, among her editing, writing and web projects, is involved with developing the National Press Club of Canada Foundation to resurrect the 80-year-old National Press Club, which closed its doors in May 2007.

Dickson spent a year as a journalism instructor at Ryerson University, and earned her first degree in psychology in 1941 at Guilford College, North Carolina.
