Neena L. Chappell , BA / 70

Dr. Neena L. Chappell is an internationally recognized expert on aging and aging related social issues. She has been undertaking research in this area from a social perspective for over 25 years.

Chappell has established two world-class university-based research centres (one at the University of Manitoba and one at the University of Victoria). She conducts large quantitative studies, small in-depth qualitative studies, and also publishes policy papers and commentaries on the current societal situation.

She views aging from a life course perspective and argues for a recognition of the positive aspects of aging as well as a recognition of problems and decline throughout our lives. She is a member of a variety of committees, task forces, and think tanks for a diverse group of sectors and audiences, and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a Canada Research Chair in social gerontology.

In 2001, she recieved the A.D. Dunton Alumni Award of Distinction from Carleton.
