
Sought after for his original voice and rugged saxophone, jazz musician Petr Cancura has more than a dozen released albums under his belt. He has recorded and performed with Grammy-nominated Danilo Perez, Bob Moses and Kathleen Edwards, John Lockwood, Joe Maneri, Cecil McBee and the Juno award-winning Mighty Popo.
After studying at Carleton, Cancura received his master’s degree from the New England Conservatory in 2006. After an artistic residency with Boston’s prestigious Modern Improvised Music Society, he was a featured resident artist and coordinator at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival and the Ottawa Folk Festival. He now makes his home in Brooklyn, New York.
Cancura performs with artists from all over the world, attesting to his cross-genre versatility, including his own groups the Petr Cancura Trio and the quartet PeopleMusic.
